Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic focuses on the removal of what is called a subluxation. A subluxation refers to a purported misalignment of the vertebrae that is believed to cause interference with the nervous system and disrupt overall health. We may use manual adjustments to realign the spine and alleviate these subluxations to promote well-being. As a result, you may experience a relief of many common symptoms such as pain or muscle spasm.

Hands-On & Instrument-Assisted Techniques

There are four primary techniques that we use in our patient care:

  • Diversified. This hands-on technique is gentle and highly accurate.
  • Thompson Drop. A drop piece of the adjusting table moves away, making for a low-force adjustment.
  • Activator®. An instrument is used for osteoporotic patients, children or anyone who prefers it.

Our Soft Tissue Modalities

As a part of your care, Dr. Bissell may recommend any of the following modalities based on what is most appropriate for you:
  • Electrical Muscle Stimulation: This therapy is not only relaxing and enjoyable. It also assists the body’s healing process by flushing inflammation-causing chemicals and other toxins from the muscles, thereby reducing inflammation, relaxing tight muscles, and providing pain relief for both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Ultrasound: Ultrasound creates heat within the soft tissues of the body through high-frequency sound waves which can penetrate below the skin’s surface much more deeply than other topical heat applications. The result is an increase in circulation to the affected area, a reduction in muscle tension and decreased pain and swelling.
  • Shockwave Therapy:This is a non-invasive treatment method used to address certain musculoskeletal conditions and promote healing.

I have been treated by chiropractors since I was a child. Charlie Bissell is simply the best. I have been seeing Charlie for almost 24 years, specifically for migraines and low back problems. His kindness and genuine caring come through in every visit.”

Conditions We Can Address

Subluxation
Subluxation occurs when a joint in the body shifts out of alignment. The shift can be as small as 1mm of movement, but often causes pain, soreness, or can even impact a nerve route. Chiropractic adjustments use manipulation to correct these malignments in the body which allows for proper musculoskeletal and nervous system function.

Degenerative Changes

When used preventatively, regular chiropractic care can prevent and slow degenerative changes of the spine including arthritis and disc related issues. Proper spinal alignment allows for even distribution of effort and weight on our joints and muscular system which prevents the wear and tear of degeneration.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a progressive medical condition that causes an individual’s spine to bend sideways and rotate. This condition most often presents in adolescence and will progress if left untreated. A combination of chiropractic care and physical therapy will identify the apex of the curvature and work to mobilize and strengthen the affected muscle groups.

Headaches

Headaches can be caused by several triggers. Here in the clinic, we commonly see patients suffering from tension headaches which generally start in the back of the skull where the upper neck muscles attach to the suboccipital lobes. Often, these headaches are caused by long hours spent looking at a phone or computer which results in forward head carriage and can be helped with upper neck adjustments or trigger point release.
TMJ
TMJ is characterized by dysfunction of the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. It can cause pain, clicking, or locking when chewing or moving the jaw. To treat this, Dr. Bissell uses a multidisciplinary approach including cervical spine adjustments, trigger point release, and tissue work to release the muscle groups that are responsible for jaw movement.

Vertigo

Vertigo is a condition that causes an individual to suffer from sudden dizzy spells or the feeling of being spun. Vertigo can be the result of an inner ear, brain, or sensory nerve impediment. Research shows that cervical adjustments can help to rebalance the inner ear and improve function of the sensory nerve.
